I had missed it, and shall read it this weekend.

I must confess that Ron Paul has some appeal to me, simply for the rather doomed and quixotic nature of his campaign.

But I'd happily vote for Uncle Fred if he ever throws his hat in the ring. :)Flambeauxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00133131881423202010noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30405512.post-70456128338978609132007-05-17T03:42:00.000-07:002007-05-17T03:42:00.000-07:00"Mark's argument that isolationism is the traditio..."Mark's argument that isolationism is the traditional conservative or Republican position is one that I don't think can be supported by the available historical evidence."

Quite right. It does seem that they've found some common ground in their opposition to the war, though there are many libetarians I know who do support it. And I'll definitely have to check out the book you mentioned. Libertarians also tend to oppose most laws restricting sexual behavior, as well as any mixing of religion and government, whereas paleocons do not. Is there a difference? Or are paleocons essentially right-wing libertarians? What I mean by that is that these are individuals who have an extremely minimalist view of the government, but who are socially conservative - but from Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30405512.post-10726951748595051502007-05-16T16:52:00.000-07:002007-05-16T16:52:00.000-07:00Heck, I didn't even know Paul's views on torture u...Heck, I didn't even know Paul's views on torture until two minutes ago, and I opposed him long before the last debate. Does Shea seriously think that if Paul had said, "I believe that the U.S. was asking for it with regard to 9/11, that our opposition to the USSR was a mistake, and that we should abandon all our allies, but I favor waterboarding every terrorist we can get our hands on" that I'd Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
